A history of search over the past decade

PARIS: Google has released a video that tracks the evolution of search (according to the company) over the last ten years.
The video highlights such milestones as the addition of images, news results, local and country-based results, videos, weather, movie times, Universal Results, Street View, Google Instant and image and voice search to Google’s search engine.
Google says it makes roughly 500 improvements to search each year.
Google Fellow Ben Gomes says, “It’s been exciting to be part of the evolution of search over the past decade, and we’re thrilled about what’s in store next. If the past is any indication, we don’t know what search will look like in 2020, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it looks nothing like it does today.”
The arrival of new intelligent discovery search engines such as Trapit suggest the future of search will be built on helping users find interesting and relevant websites that are often too obscure or too fresh to appear at the top of existing search engine result pages.
Trapit’s search results are not only customized to individual tastes, they organically adapt to users’ browsing habits over time, making it easier for people to find what they want, often before they know what they are searching for.
There’s also an epic battle forming between Apple, Google and Microsoft on the voice search front — an area that technologists and search experts are watching closely.
