Kayani assures Gilani of safer border with Afghanistan


ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani called on Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani here at the Prime Minister House on Friday and apprised him about security measures being taken at Pak-Afghan border in aftermath of deadly Nato strike, DawnNews reported.
Matters pertaining to the national security were also discussed during the meeting.
Kayani informed the prime minster that the troops along the border area had been armed with modern weapons.
Gilani said parliament would decide whether to open Nato supply route or not. Both officials also discussed the progress on evacuation of Shamsi airbase. According to sources the base has been vacated completely by the US forces. It is expected that UAE officials will take control of the base from Saturday.
